I’ve been very quiet for a just about ten months and that’s on me, but lack of motivation and working a full-time job in the navy does not make it easy. The lack of motivation isn’t because I don’t care but it’s because of being underwhelmed by a dismal Flyers team and organization. I am not making excuses; I will be better, and I will create a new standard for myself and hold myself accountable moving forward.
Now onto the Hockey, and the Flyers specifically John Torterella, Torts has already set his expectations and what he wants coming out of this camp and that is conditioning. Famous line in the movie “Miracle” by coach Herb Brooks is “the legs feed the wolf gentlemen the legs feed the wolf”. The meaning behind that saying is that wolves rely on their legs to be strong to be able to stalk and chase prey in order to eat and survive. If this Flyers team wants to eat or let alone just survive, they will be the most conditioned team, they may not be the best but with this coaching style hopefully this means the Flyers will never truly be out of any one game per day because they will never stop working.
This does not mean that I think that they will win a bunch of games or be a playoff team I think they finish somewhere between 4-8th worse team in the league and that at most they win 35 games and finish with 76 or 78 points. Just below hockey .500 which should give them a very formidable draft pick in a very stacked draft class. I am looking forward to. See the opening night roster and what young players start where. I would love to see guys like Frost step up in a 2C, 1PP, and 2PK minutes. He’s bulked up a lot over the summer he looks like an NHLer, and I think he’s going to solidify his spot this season as the Flyers 2C moving forward. Wade Allison is another player I’m very interested in as I want to see him stay healthy and work towards a PP2 wing spot as his shot is just pure and strong, I like his fire and just the overall approach to the game, but I need to see him stay healthy. Tyson forester is another guy I feel very optimistic about, but he plays the right wing which is kind of jammed at the moment with guys like Allison Konecny Atkinson Tippett and those just the NHLers let alone the likes of Bobby Brink Hayden Hodgson and Linus Sundin. I’m not saying by any means that Hodgson or Sundin are going to push for spot out of camp but there is some depth on that right side. As far as LW is concerned my player to watch is Noah Cates, I could see him playing on the top line as a big body who battles in front playing a Wayne Simmonds type role and doing the dirty work in the corners with fighting for the puck.
This is by no means going to be a glamorous year for the Flyers it’s going to be long, hard, dirty, and at times agonizing but by the end of this year I think we will have a very good idea of who is who and what players will be here for the long haul on the road to rebuilding this once storied hockey team.
