First let me start by recapping what was said at the mid-season state of the team press conference. One of the first Questions asked were about the concerns of lack of the attendance at Flyers games and Dave Scott stated that: “When you’re not winning, you don’t have a good product on the ice, it’s going to impact attendance,” Scott said. “We’re feeling it, I’m feeling for the fans. You’ve got team performance, you’ve also got COVID protocol. Philadelphia’s very tough with its vaccination, that’s impacting attendance. It’s impacting the Wings; it’s impacting the Sixers. It doesn’t help the cause. But bottom line is we have to get better, we have to figure out how to win games.”. With all that being said let me just give you the facts of the situation, the Sixers have 100.7% of tickets sold ranking second in the NBA only trailing the Bulls due to two less games being played at home. All of that is straight from ESPN.com easily accessible on the world wide web. To bring up the wings is a joke purely because lacrosse is not very popular sport and is not in the same level of relevance as the Flyers.
Another one of the first topics was to talk about team injuries and Chuck Fletcher went on to state that Ryan Ellis and Sean Couturier are both looking at getting season ending surgeries and to start preparing for next season. Both Dave Scott and Chuck Fletcher went on to say this season is a loss, but they do not believe that this will be a 2-5 year rebuild. Instead, they pitched the idea of an “aggressive rebuild although Fletcher stated the only true way is to acquire “high level talent” is through the draft. He also stated that they will try to do some supplementing through the free agency if the right opportunity presents itself.
Chuck Fletcher also touched on Claude Giroux and the trade conversation surrounding him and the team. Claude has a No Move Clause (NMC) that the Flyers have not approached him to waive said NMC. The rumors pretty much have remained the same with the Rangers, Wild, Avs, and Bruins are all the front runners at this point.
Chuck was then asked about the Flyers drafting and developing woes over the last few years. Chuck proceeded to double down and state that he believes the drafting and development since he joined the team in 2018 has been very well and quoted the success of Farabee, York, and that the minor league team in Lehigh has looked good as well as the college kids at this time.
With all of this being said I am going to have another post up by Sunday morning that outlines a realistic yet perfect world scenario for an aggressive rebuild off-season. hope everyone is having a good day and enjoys the weekend. As always please like share comment subscribe and Follow.
