2-1-1 on the week

The Flyers had a bit of a underachieving week after the way they started. After knocking off both the Maple Leafs and the Bruins in a shoot out they ended up falling to the Capitals and the Senators.

As stated above Philly went into to Toronto and pushed play for the first 40 minutes. Going into the third period the Flyers had a 2 goal lead, but not long into the 3rd period that lead would disappear. The game would go into overtime, and then into a shoot out, where Claude Giroux blasted a slap shot through Anderson’s five hole. Nylander would tie it up beating Elliot. Sean Couturier would end the game with a pretty deke beating Anderson for the win.

The next night against the Bruins, once again the Flyers dominated play through the first 40 minutes. Although they did blow another two goal lead they still found a way to win the game in a shoot out once again. This Joel Farabee played hero to help knock off the Bruins.

Wednesday night was a very well played game by both sides as the Flyers and Capitals faced off. The capitals jumped out to a 1 goal lead in the first period. That would be it for the scoring till the third period when Claude Giroux would score on the power play. With the game tied 1-1 it would head into OT but no one would score. Once again for the third straight game the Flyers would go into the shootout but unfortunately would lose to the Capitals.

Last night was a frustrating game to watch as the Flyers controlled the pace of play for the majority of the game. The only problem is they could only fix the back of the net once losing to the Senators 2-1

My 3 Stars of the Week

Not many candidates for this week as there wasn’t much goal scoring this week.

3rd Star- Claude Giroux

As Giroux went this week so did the Flyers. If not for Giroux you could argue that the flyers don’t win any games this week. He had 2 shoot out goals but only 1 real goal.

2nd Star- Philippe Myers

Myers was arguably the best D-man this week with a +/- of a +3. He also posted 2 goals this week and an average ice time of 18:26 this week.

1st Star- Carter Hart

Hart this week was 2-1 with a GAA 2.00 and a Sv% of .913. Hart seemingly won all of the games for the Flyers this week. If not for Hart who knows how this week would’ve gone.

This Weeks Preview

With 3 games this week the Flyers have another tough stretch ahead of them. The first game on the agenda is tonight at home against the Islanders. I would bet that Elliot would be in net tonight. The thing that jumps out at me is the Flyers lack of ability to put the puck in the back of the net lately and I think that it will be there downfall tonight as they will lose 3-1.

With two days off the flyers will travel to Florida and play the Panthers on the road Tuesday night. I believe the Flyers will finally snap out of whatever funk they are in and win 5-2.

They will then travel north to Carolina to face the hurricanes. I believe that they will beat Carolina again but this time it will be a closer game with a score of 4-3. This game is big as far as standings are concerned as the Canes have are currently in the 3 spot of the Metro.

With that being said I predict the Flyers will be 2-1-0 come Saturday morning. With a little bit of help they will be in 3rd place in the Metro. That would have the Flyers in a good spot heading into U.S. Thanksgiving as for many that is a telling sign of who will be in the playoffs come the end of the season.

My Player to Watch This Week

I think this will be a break out week for Voracek. I starting to think that Voracek is in for a big week after coming out of the gate struggling. With 4G and 9A I think Jakub will live up to his nickname scoracek with 3G and 3A as he will lead the Flyers to a successful week this week.
