2-0-1 on the Week

The Flyers had a pretty good week receiving 5 of 6 possible points this week. They played some great hockey, and looks like the best Flyers team we’ve seen since the 2012-13 team. The Flyers have grown tremendously in AV’s system and continue to progress as the season goes by. While they haven’t been the better team all the time, they still find ways to win and that is exactly what good teams do. During the Toronto game the Flyers were playing on a back to back and found a way to walk away with at least one point. If it was last season there is no way they would have won that game.

The next game against the Hurricanes, they continued to play well even though it seemed like they were out played through the first 2 periods, Carter Hart kept them in the game. The Flyers came into the 3rd period tied 1-1 and just went on to score three unanswered goals. One of those goals was a breakaway goal by Claude Giroux who just reared up and slapped right through the five hole. The Flyers would go on to win that game 4-1.

Thursday night the Flyers played Montreal which once again if this was last season I feel like this is a game, they would find a way to lose by a mile. Instead they went on to win 3-2 in OT. This game story was all about Carey Price who seamed to be unbeatable facing 43 shots and only allowing 3 goals, one of which was the trickle in OT winner by Coots. The Flyers played great in the neutral zone and defensive end creating good transitions to offense just for Price to stand on his head ruining chance after chance for the Flyers.

My 3 Stars of the Week

With plenty of candidates for this week it’s hard to decide who they would be but these three seem to have had some of the best stretches this week playing very well.

3rd Star- Ivan Provorov

Provy seems to have found his footing this week not only defensively, but offensively as well. He tallied 3 points and averaged just around 24 minutes of ice time per game. It seems that the addition of Matt Niskanen has helped level out Provy’s game tremendously.

2nd Star- Carter Hart

Hart seams to have bounced back well this week with a record of 2-0-0. He had a SV% of .944 in his games against the Habs and Canes and averaged 1.5 GAA per game. The cherry on top here is he finally beat his Idol of Carry Price in OT on Thursday.

1st Star- The Captain

Kind of an obvious choice, tallying 5 points this week. G had 2 goals and 3 assists this week. G has played a complete 200 foot game all season and continues to show why he is a leader on this team. Recently moving back over to center seems to be a good fit at the moment with all the injuries but I suspect he will move back to the wing as soon as Laughton returns as well as Nolan Patrick.

Breakout Player

I could have 2 choices for this one between Farabee and Myers, but I think I have to go with Philip Myers, as he has done everything and more to solidify his spot in this defensive rotation. Not only has he produced offensively with 2 points but he has been very solid on the defensive side of the puck as well. Seemingly Phil Myers has set himself up to stay with the club unless something unfortunate as an injury were to happen

This Weeks Preview

With 4 games in the next 7 days the Flyers are going to be very busy, starting with tonight. They play in Toronto against the Maple Leafs. I suspect the Flyers are looking to get back at Toronto tonight after falling 4-3 in a shoot out loss last Saturday to them, I suspect that we will see Elliot back in net to give Hart an extra night of rest for tomorrow night. I also suspect that the Flyers will win tonight and remain hot winning 4-2.

Next game is tomorrow night against the Bruins which is arguably the hottest team in the league with Marchand and Pastrnak leading the league in points combining for 58 points and its only November. I see the Flyers taking a loss tomorrow hopefully in Overtime with a score of 4-3.

The Flyers then get two nights off before facing off against the Washington Capitals who are first in the Metro division. I think the Flyers can continue to stay hot and pull out a win in a nail biter of 2-1.

Then on Friday they play the worst team in hockey which should be an easy win against Ottawa. Ottawa comes into the week tied for last with only 11 points and a record of 5-9-1. The rebuilding Senators have not been good for a few years and probably won’t be for a few more so I suspect a blow out for the Flyers winning by a score of 5-1.

If all of that goes as I predict the Flyers will come out of next week 3-0-1 and hopefully holding a divisional playoff spot. Their record would be 11-5-3 with a total of 25 points.

My Player to Watch This Week

This week is who else but the kid, Joel Farabee, who I predict will have 3 goals and 4 assists this week slotting in on the top line with Giroux and JVR. What else is there to say, every play this kid seems to be in the right spot at all times. He’s constantly making good decisions and his hockey IQ is off the charts. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Farabee stay on the top line the rest of the year with his play as of late.

Finally this is just a thank you for reading if you got any suggestions feel free to leave a comment and I’ll do my best to improve and let’s go Flyers!!!!!
